Whether you’re a regular golfer, an occasional hacker or a complete newbie, Padstow has a host of options for anyone looking to get in a round or two of golf on their trip to North Cornwall. From the full luxury of a golf and country club to a gentle mini golf amble with the kids at lunchtime, there’s something for everyone nearby us at Kilden Mor.
Trevose Golf and Country Club
This England Golf Championship venue boasts three courses, the oldest of which is the Championship Course (from £60/round), which was designed by HS Colt and opened in 1925. For a quieter game, opt for the Headland Course (from £21/day), opened in 1993, which measures just over 3,000 yards and will take you on a wander out to Trevose Head, with views all the way to St Ives on a clear day. There’s also a Short Course (from £12/day) ideal for beginners and juniors, which is set around the ruins of the 15th century Chapel of St Constantine.
If you’re in need of a lesson, head to the Trevose Performance Centre, the onsite practice and tuition facility where you’ll find a Trackman launch monitor, GASP video analysis system, eight covered practice bays and an onsite custom club fitting service. And once you’ve had your fill of golf, you can enjoy some of the destination’s other facilities, which include a beauty salon, games room, and children’s play area, as well as dining and accommodation
St Enodoc Golf Club
Located across the Camel estuary in Rock, St Enodoc Golf Club offers great views of Padstow, as well as rugged natural sand dunes and the vast sweep of the Atlantic to the north. Experienced golfers will enjoy the more challenging Church Course, which is ranked #74 in the World by Top 100 Golf Courses and has a handicap limit of 21.4 for men and 22.7 for women, while the Holywell Course is suitable for golfers of any handicap.
Adult green fees start at £70 off peak at Church Green or £40 at Holywell, with week-long memberships available for those who really want to make the most of their time on the course.
The Point at Polzeath
A mile beyond Rock but still overlooking the Camel estuary is The Point, an 18 hole golf course and driving range which was included in the The Sunday Times “Britain’s top Golf Hotels” in 2018. This dog-friendly course has views out over Hayle Bay and Pentire Point, and has a restaurant and bar where you can relax after your game.
There’s a pro shop here too, as well as The Point Academy, where you can go for lessons. These cost from £35 for 40 minutes, with packages available, as well as group / family lessons and a junior academy.
Everything Golf Studio
If the weather is terrible or you’re in need of a refresher before you get out onto the course, head to Wadebridge and Everything Golf Studio. There you’ll be welcomed by Michael Derry, who started golfing when he was just four years old and turned professional aged 23. Golf lessons using indoor golf simulators are available from just £20 per person, and there’s also a licensed bar where you can enjoy a pint or a glass of wine afterwards.
Greens of Padstow
Kids and adults alike will love a trip to Greens of Padstow, a restaurant and mini golf garden up in the hills overlooking the Camel estuary. The menus cater for whatever time of day you visit, whether you’re looking for a full Cornish breakfast, nibbles like artisan bread and marinated olives, or a full lunch or dinner such as monkfish fillets or aubergine katsu curry.
Green’s 18-hole mini golf course is set in a beautiful garden full of sculptures and specimen planting that changes throughout the year. Prices are reasonable too, at £6.50 for children aged 15 and under, £8.50 for 16+ or £26.50 for a family of two adults and two kids.
